Atlantic Eelgrass Monitoring Consortium (Atl-EMC)

The Coalition-SGSL, with funding from Environment Canada, kicked off our eelgrass monitoring project this past summer. With assistance from world renowned experts, industry, universities, and government staff, we set up monitoring sites in NS, NB, PEI and NFLD!

A cold day (-23 degrees Celsius) for CABIN sampling with the crew from Southeast Environmental-Association! Angela's waders are frozen!

The Community Aquatic Monitoring Project is in full swing in estuaries around the Southern Gulf.

Pictured above is one of our CAMP coordinators, Dominique Dupuis, with her catch of the day!

The Annual General Meeting of the Coalition-SGSL will take place on June 13-14th in Pugwash, NS. To register or for more information please contact: coalition.sgsl@gmail.com.

New Executive Director for the Coalition-SGSL

Angela Douglas is the new Executive director of the Southern Gulf of St.Lawrence Coalition on Sustainability. She has a BSc in Biology from UPEI as well as an MSc from the Atlantic Veterinary College. While working on her degrees she got involved with a local watershed group and has been acting as coordinator for the last six years. She has ample experience working with charitable and environmental organizations and she is eager to work with the coalition, increasing capacity and creating awareness on issues facing the gulf region.

The Coalition would like to sincerely thank Thérèse Chenard for her years of dedicated service. We wish her all the best in the future. She will be missed!

Greetings! And welcome to the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Coalition on Sustainability (Coalition-SGSL). We are a multi-stakeholder regional body representing Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec portions of the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence ecosystem.

Our Area of InterestThe Southern Gulf region is an important ecological, economic and socio-cultural region of North America. Communities along the Gulf coast depend on its resources for income and their quality of life. The Gulf region supports key ecosystems such as salt marshes, beaches, estuaries and forests. It provides critical habitat, including spawning, feeding and nursery grounds, for numerous terrestrial and marine species.
