Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Coalition on Sustainability

The Coastal Communities Challenges — Community-University Research Alliance in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence facing climate change (CCC-CURA) comprises a group of community partners and researchers concerned with social, economic and environmental issues in Canada. The CCC-CURA formula helps to link partners' research results (researchers and students) to the practical needs of communities as identified by community partners.

M. Steve Plante, professor at Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) and Ms. Chantal Gagnon, Executive Director of the Southern Gulf of St-Lawrence Coalition on sustainability (Coalition-SGSL) co-direct the CCC-CURA. The principal aim of that co-direction is to ensure complete coverage of the territory with supervision of the activities undertaken in the field. Their mutual commitments will strengthen and expand their networks which will help develop better strategies on a larger territory.

Aside from the Co-direction, the role of the Coalition-SGSL in the CCC-CURA is to ensure communication and exchange between partners and groups with common interests in different issues. The Coalition-SGSL’s participation also ensures members can participate in the CCC-CURA projects when the time comes. This CURA is for a minimum of 5 years.

The Coalition-SGSL is involved as a Partner of Practice in the CCC-CURA's longitudinal project involving eleven communities.For more information on CCC-CURA, please visit their website.
