The Southern Gulf of St.Lawrence Coalition on Sustainability is pleased to be hosting a very valuable workshop, ‘Climate Change and Coastal Communities - Concern and challenges for today and beyond’ on November 11-13, 2004 in Bouctouche, New Brunswick.

The origins of this workshop are based on the research study results from the ‘Impacts of Sea-Level Rise and Climate Change on the Coastal Zone of southeastern New Brunswick’. These preliminary results will be made available to the public during the ‘Open House’ session on Saturday, Nov.13. Ultimately, the goal of the workshop is to allow for an exchange of information on the various scenarios and challenges faced by coastal communities in the Southern Gulf of St.Lawrence Region and to learn of the current scientific studies being conducted across Canada with respect to climate change.

“Impacts of Sea-Level Rise and Climate Change on the Coastal Zone of Southeastern New Brunswick” is a three-year, $2.5 million study managed by Environment Canada and carried out by scientists and researchers from over a dozen government and academic groups.

The goal of the project is to measure the impacts of climate change and sea-level rise in support of sustainable management, community resilience and the development of adaptation strategies for these impacts.
